Project summary

A program of the American Climate Corps, the Working Lands Climate Corps will engage at least 100 young adults in technical skills training in climate-smart agriculture and forestry practices at host sites across the country.

Opportunity description

The WLCC member will build the capacity of current Extension programming through collecting data necessary to complete assessments of tribal grazing and farming lands. The member will gather historical grazing and farming data, sample soils from range and farmlands, account for existing vegetation, and assist in establishing three land use management plans for two Navajo grazing districts and the White Mesa Ute Reservation.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Be at least 17 years old at the start of service. Have a high school diploma or equivalent or agree to obtain a high school diploma prior to using the earned education award. Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria. Other qualifications may be required by the host site.

Preferred qualifications

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, and basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Internet, Zoom, etc). Experience organizing educational programs and recruiting program participants and supervising program operations.Two years completed in a bachelor’s program in any land management related field. Skills and experience working with low income and under-served audiences. Knowledge of soil conservation practices. Bachelor’s degree in any land management related field.
