A program of the American Climate Corps, the Working Lands Climate Corps will engage at least 100 young adults in technical skills training in climate-smart agriculture and forestry practices at host sites across the country.

Opportunity description

The Technical Assistance Provider Trainee (TAPT) position is an opportunity to learn from and support Technical Assistance Providers (TAPs) working on the Climate-Smart Farming and Marketing Program, support the Soil Health Benchmark Research Study team, and support farmer outreach, especially through the Agroforestry Certificate program, as part of Pasa Sustainable Agriculture’s overall goals to help farmers increase climate resilience and food sovereignty.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Be at least 17 years old at the start of service. Have a high school diploma or equivalent or agree to obtain a high school diploma prior to using the earned education award. Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria. Other qualifications may be required by the host site.

Preferred qualifications

Strong sense of curiosity and desire to learn. Willingness to be a supportive problem-solver. Experience or education in environmental sciences or agriculture. Desire to work closely with farmers through a conservation lens. Reliable transportation. Ability to stand for moderately long periods (~2 hours). Ability to handle adverse weather conditions during farm visits (very cold, precipitation, very hot). Ability to occasionally lift moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds). Working proficiency in written and spoken English. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational skills. Working proficiency in Spanish. Familiarity with Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, etc.).
