Project summary

A program of the American Climate Corps, the Working Lands Climate Corps will engage at least 100 young adults in technical skills training in climate-smart agriculture and forestry practices at host sites across the country.

Opportunity description

The Program Associate will gain hands-on experience with conservation project planning including conducting in-field habitat assessments, supporting workshops and other outreach events, gathering and analyzing data, creating informational resources, and providing conservation technical assistance. This role will actively promote climate-smart agriculture for monarch butterfly conservation, making a tangible, positive impact on both agricultural sustainability and biodiversity.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Be at least 17 years old at the start of service. Have a high school diploma or equivalent or agree to obtain a high school diploma prior to using the earned education award. Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria. Other qualifications may be required by the host site.

Preferred qualifications

Strong organizational and communication skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work outdoors, potentially for extended periods in variable weather conditions. Ability to work well in team environments as well as independently. Willingness to travel overnight on occasion as needed, primarily within Minnesota. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Working toward completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, Ecology, Fisheries and Wildlife Biology, or a closely related natural resources, plant science, or agricultural major, or 3 years of work experience in a related field.
