Project summary

The California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) is part of a statewide initiative to address and mitigate the effects of climate change. CCAC matches Fellows with organizations to mobilize community members to take direct climate action through education, volunteer mobilization, and assessment focused on urban greening, organic waste diversion and edible food recovery, and wildfire resiliency. This is a climate-focused, workforce development program for emerging climate and environmental leaders.

As a Food Recovery Fellow at FIND Food Bank, you'll be at the forefront of efforts to combat food insecurity while championing sustainability. From recruiting volunteers and organizing engaging events to diverting food waste through composting and recycling initiatives, your contributions will directly support our mission to reduce waste and increase food rescue rates. Join us in reducing waste disposal by 75% and increasing food rescue by 20% by 2025 to create a greener, more equitable future for all! Duties include, but are not limited to: Spearhead FIND's volunteer recruitment, engaging the community to expand and support our dedicated volunteer base Implement our. innovative composting program, coordinating the diversion of over 2,000 lbs. of food waste monthly. Organize dynamic community events to advocate food recovery and sustainability efforts, ensuring resources are available to encourage community engagement. Develop an education curriculum and lead outreach events to inform and inspire community members to participate in food recovery initiatives. Assist the warehouse team in packing events, sorting expired food donations, and streamlining material storage for seamless food recycling and effective.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Live in California by August 16, 2024. Must be age 18 or older by August 16, 2024. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident to participate.

Preferred qualifications

An interest in climate change mitigation, volunteerism, or public service. Experience with outreach, education, training, or community behavior change. Fundamental understanding of climate change science, environmental policies in California, and/or environmental priorities. Excellent organizational, writing, interpersonal, and speaking skills.
