Project summary

Support Clean Rivers Education classroom and field trip programs. Work with the Green Street Steward program (GSS) and community partners/ residents to promote green streets for clean rivers, healthy watersheds and livable, sustainable communities.

Opportunity description

The Member will support Clean Rivers Education classroom and field trip programs. The work includes time outdoors in all weather, often on uneven terrain. Field programs take place in Portland parks and natural areas. The Education and GSS Outreach Coordinator will build on the successes of previous AmeriCorps Members by inviting community members to participate in the care of green streets through community education and watershed stewardship activities.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Interest and experience working with youth (k-12). Ability and willingness to work outdoors in inclement weather. Ability to work independently. Experience with diverse populations. Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Desire to serve diverse communities to promote education, environmental stewardship, and an ethic of service.

Preferred qualifications

Ability to speak a language other than English. Reside in a low-income community or community of color in Portland. Interest/experience in natural resources, stormwater management, and/or environmental science. Familiarity with the region. Experience with data collection, data entry, and GIS.
