Project summary

Arkansas Conservation Corps (ARCC) of American YouthWorks participants engage in hands-on conservation projects on public lands, coastal regions, National Parks, and recreational areas across the Central Southern United States. The season will consist of disaster mitigation, habitat restoration, trail projects, and disaster relief. These crews remain on-call and able to deploy should a flood, fire, hurricane, or other disasters occur. ARCC is both a state and federal resource during disasters.

Opportunity description

Constructing/maintaining trails and other park/recreation sites. Removing invasive and exotic plant species from parks and public lands. Planting native species for restoration purposes. Preventing soil erosion through the construction of a variety of barriers. Responding to disasters including floods, wildfires, and tornados. Maintaining tools and equipment including chainsaws, power tools, and hand tools. Crew leaders receive a higher $17.00/hour pay rate. There are a range of seasonal openings for this position available in AR and TX!

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

High school diploma or GED; Between the ages of 18-35 (crew members), 21-35 (crew leaders); U.S. Citizenship or lawful permanent U.S. Resident; Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check. Preferred qualifications

Commitment to completing an entire term of service; Strong service ethic and desire to serve the community and the environment; Function as part of a team, and be able to get along with members of all races, genders, political beliefs, religions, experience levels; Willingness to work long hours in all weather conditions; Ability to be away on overnight trips for up to 10 days at a time.
