Project summary

The California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) is part of a statewide initiative to address and mitigate the effects of climate change. CCAC matches Fellows with organizations to mobilize community members to take direct climate action through education, volunteer mobilization, and assessment focused on urban greening, organic waste diversion and edible food recovery, and wildfire resiliency. This is a climate-focused, workforce development program for emerging climate and environmental leaders.

Opportunity description

Conservation Works is seeking 3 Climate Resiliency Fellow s to lead transformative initiatives in environmental stewardship in the communities of Fort Bragg (2) and Windsor (1) California. With a focus on organic waste diversion, fuel reduction, and urban greening, you'll drive tangible change in schools and high-fire-risk neighborhoods, creating a sustainable future for all. Spearheading efforts like the Food Waste Diversion Program and Urban Greening Initiative, you'll revolutionize waste management practices and enhance community well-being. Through collaborative programs like the Wildfire Resiliency Program, you'll safeguard vulnerable populations and empower communities to build resilience in the face of environmental challenges. Together, we'll inspire positive change and create a future where environmental justice and resilience thrive. Duties include, but are not limited to: Spearhead food waste reduction initiatives in collaboration with local schools and support the expansion of community composting programs to reduce organic waste in landfills. Coordinate edible food recovery efforts and redistribute surplus food to local communities to foster food security and waste reduction. Deliver educational workshops highlighting urban greening, wildfire readiness, and food waste reduction to encourage environmental stewardship, community resilience, and climate action Identify viable locations for tree planting and urban greening projects, engage community in tree urban greening initiatives, and conduct ongoing tree health assessments post-planting. Develop and implement wildfire prevention strategies and support fuel reduction programs to mitigate wildfire risk. Engage and support volunteer events for vegetation clearing, food rescue, and tree planting to maximize community involvement and promote community climate resilience.
