Project summary

Join us for our 2024 YouthBuild Construction program! The YouthBuild Construction program is a team-based program for individuals between the ages 18-24 who are looking to get their GED or high school equivalency. The program will run October 2024 through June 2025. YouthBuild Construction participants (called Corpsmembers) serve on community-based affordable housing projects throughout the Denver metro area. Corpsmembers will be enrolled in AmeriCorps, a national community service program.

Opportunity description

YouthBuild participants (Corpsmembers) engage in intensive training divided between the construction service site and the classroom earning a GED or High School Equivalency diploma. Corpsmembers develop construction skills while providing a minimum of 300 hours of service to their community by serving on affordable housing projects, set and achieve further educational goals, and engage in leadership development, civic engagement, and career readiness and post-secondary preparation activities.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Must be between 18-24 years old -- must turn 18 by October 15th, 2024. Eligible for enrollment in AmeriCorps as a US Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident. Documentation will be required on the first day. Pre-service background check required -- this position has recurring access to vulnerable populations. Pre-service site drug screen may be required. Must follow MHYC and AmeriCorps Member Service Agreement policies and guidelines, including refraining from prohibited activities as listed in the agreement. Must be able to provide eligibility documentation, which may include proof of income and other documents. Must be physically capable of undertaking construction projects.

Desire to make a positive change in your life. Committed to earning a high school equivalency diploma. Desire to become involved in your community and increase your leadership skills. Willingness to engage in assigned construction related service.
