Project summary
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is the leading federal provider of outdoor recreation and attracts over 335 million visitors annually to our lake and river projects in 43 states. The purpose of providing the intern at the Kansas City District Office is to update GIS databases in support of the Environmental and Natural Resource Management mission.
Opportunity description
The intern will assist in organizing and developing GIS data for land management. Tasks include organizing, verifying, and enhancing feature layers in ArcGIS Pro using existing GIS data and historical documents. The intern will populate attribute tables with information on real estate, land use, and acreage, and reconcile feature layers with historical records. Limited travel to lake project sites for data collection and documentation is also required.

- Relocation Travel - $650 (maximum) issued as a reimbursement for actual expense based upon roundtrip travel distance from home location to site.
Requirements and qualifications
Requirements
Must be 18 years old and wear required attire by SCA while on duty. A valid driver's license is needed. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work well in a team and follow USACE staff direction. Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro is required. Accessing the USACE network necessitates passing a Tier I background check, fingerprint review, SF85 Questionnaire, and OF 306 federal volunteer employment forms. Personal vehicle REQUIRED.
Preferred qualifications
Experience with: GIS/GPS data collection; Microsoft Excel. Working towards a BA in natural sciences, conservation, environmental science, land management or similar.
