Project summary

The Student Conservation Association, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), is seeking field leaders (age 21+) to supervise and train high-school-aged students through the completion of hands-on conservation and infrastructure projects on Pennsylvania's public lands.

Opportunity description

Throughout the season, leaders will ensure the safety of their crews, supervise project work, facilitate team-building, maintain professional communication with partners, and complete administrative and reporting duties related to the role. Opportunities for Youth Crew Leaders are available in Altoona, Chambersburg, Erie, Greensburg, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lock Haven, Meadville, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Reading, Ridgway, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Wellsboro, Williamsport, and York, Pennsylvania.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Must be age 21 or older. Valid Driver's License and ability to pass SCA Motor Vehicle Record Check, which requires 3 years of clean driving record. Current PA Clearances for working with underage individuals. Current CPR/First Aid certification. Experience working with youth or young adults. Local housing and reliable transportation. Availability for the full duration of the program. Successful completion of SCA Field Leader Training.

Preferred qualifications

One year of teaching and/or youth mentorship experience. Ability to work independently in outdoor environments while managing a small team.
