Project summary

The Outdoor Corps offers paid work experience, skills training, professional development, and environmental education opportunities to youth and young adults across Pennsylvania. We engage young adults, ages 18-25, in conservation and outdoor recreation projects in Pennslyvania's state parks and forests as well as other conservation partners and lands. Program participants emerge with increased environmental awareness, technical skills, social responsibility and leadership skills. Opportunity description

Openings in: DuBois, Meadville, Pittsburgh, Norristown, Somerset, Williamsport. Crews meet daily at a centralized location in their program city. Crews will then travel out to the worksites together in SCA vehicles. Some drives can be up to 1.5hrs. Various conservation and outdoor recreation projects. Professional development opportunities available. This is a field-based position -- efforts will be made to accommodate safe and/or indoor work during short periods of inclement weather.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Pennsylvania resident; Ages 18 - 25; Able to conduct manual work in all outdoor conditions, including the ability to hike up to 4 miles per day; Able to work collaboratively on a small team; Able to model safe and professional behavior at all times; Have housing in or near the program city; Have reliable transportation to and from crew meeting location; Willing/able to complete overnight camping hitches during the season, spending 3 - 5 days away from home (necessary gear provided).

Preferred qualifications

No experience required. An interest in conservation careers, trade skills, or a related field in highly encouraged. This is a field based position. Efforts will be made to accommodate safe and/or indoor work during short periods of inclement weather but crew members may be called-off during periods of extreme weather and therefore, 40 hours per week is not guaranteed in the event of inclement weather events.
