Project summary

Interns with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department's Natural Resources Management Division will help restore forested riparian and coastal prairie habitats in city parks. Duties include invasive species removal, planting trees and prairie plants, and maintaining these restored areas to support habitat establishment as part of the Riparian Restoration Initiative.

Opportunity description

Member Key Duties and Responsibilities: Invasive species removal and native species planting. Additional member duties include: Working with volunteers and propagation or planting events; plant propagation; operation of small equipment, such as weed eaters; and herbicide application.

Benefits

  • Living Allowance: $520 per week
  • Commuter Allowance: $80 per week

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Preferred qualifications

Some coursework within a Natural Resources Field Plant identification; Comfortable working outside; Invasive species removal; Perform strenuous activities in harsh conditions; Work in outdoor setting; Local candidates highly encouraged to apply.
