Project summary
This position supports National Park Service staff at War in the Pacific National Historical Park (WAPA) in Guam by protecting and monitoring marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Duties include establishing a large coral nursery, conducting reef flat surveys, and controlling avian predators to reintroduce native bird species.
Opportunity description
Two interns will assist Park Staff with expanding coral reef restoration at WAPA by establishing a new coral nursery to provide fragments for outplanting onto damaged reefs. They will monitor reef and reef flat ecosystems to track health over time and remove avian predators from Asan Ridge to aid native species recovery. Interns will also engage with local community partners and the University of Guam in research and conservation efforts.

Requirements and qualifications
Requirements
An interest and prior academic experience in marine and terrestrial ecology. Open water SCUBA certification. Ability carry out physically demanding work. Proficiency in swimming. Interns must source their own local housing. NPS staff in Guam can help provide recommendations and contacts."
Preferred qualifications
Experience with ecological data collection and entry.
