Project summary

For generations, the men and women working in America's energy communities fueled the nation's prosperity. This VISTA project will support energy communities by helping spur economic growth, create jobs, and remediate environmental damage. Members will advance locally designed economic development, workforce readiness, and environmental remediation plans to assist low-income residents in energy transition communities. The Conservation Legacy Stewards program has 22 years of experience supporting economic development and environmental stewardship in coal mining communities.

Opportunity description

Energy Community AmeriCorps VISTA members will serve in nine priority energy communities across the nation building the capacity of nonprofits and public agencies to support economic development, workforce readiness, and remediation of legacy pollution. Members will carry out activities such as community needs assessments, organizing public meetings, conducting outreach on accessing federal and community resources to support economic development and environmental remediation, and more. VISTA members will receive extensive training, professional development, and experience for clean energy and economic development careers.
